A Urologist Advices & Advocates For IMGs'
This is unusual.
Or so it may seem so to you.
If you are wondering why I have non-IMG educating us today, then think again.
You know what, in real life we are going to encounter a lot more US graduates as colleagues, attending physicians and program directors.
This has nothing to do with whether IMGs can serve in these roles or not. But really because there are just way more US students than IMGs who apply for the US residency match program each year.
For this same reason, I think it is absolutely essential to speak with non IMGs who are successful in their careers in order to get advice as to how to “level the playing field” for ourselves as IMGs.
Hence, I invited Dr. Fenwa Milhouse today, an attending urologist who takes time out of her busy schedule to educate medical students on social media on various topics. She is particularly the expert for those interested in surgical specialties and subspecialties such as UROLOGY!
In her interview she broke some major news to me!
Did you know that IMG’s applying into urology had a higher match rate when compared to other specialities?
I know what you are thinking…
Remember though that the denominator is low here, given the closed niche urology has. But that being said, if if the criteria were met, there is evidence to show that IMGs stand a better chance.
