Then I strongly recommend that you consider starting there.

I believe this can be an area that helps the IMG who did not match, especially if they did not get interviews on the first cycle due to low scores.

The reason I say this is this -

Programs want to graduate residents who will have no issues obtaining medical licenses and passing respective specialty board exams.

This makes them look good when compared to other ACGME programs.

So, if you had low scores but then pass Step 3 during this “gap year” what you are doing is you are telling programs you have figured out how to pass these tests well and you are less of a liability but more of an asset!

Now, if you applied into the 2020 Match cycle last year and already had your Step 3 score, I have advice for you as well.
